The coccolithophores are blooming!!!

We here in the Santa Barbara region are experiencing an oceanographic treat - a huge coccolithophore bloom! This event, which has been only rarely seen in this area, is responsible for the turquoise blue waters that have been seen along the coastline. Our lab will be working hard to understand what is driving this event.
